Robin Hobb knows how to tug the heart strings in every direction. Her character building is amazing. No other author I've encountered has been able to breathe life into the page as she has. If you end up finishing this trilogy and moving on to Liveship Traders, the plot will thicken with more points of view, and you'll find yourself empathizing with the good and bad guys. When I read the assassin's trilogy, it was so good that I felt I must've never read a good book in my life, and even more so with Liveship Traders!
TL;DR: there's a lot of romance in the assassin's books (but think quality over quantity), as well as the liveship trader trilogy.(less)
