Where did you first come up with the idea for White Space?

Ilsa J. Bick From my youngest daughter: she wondered if I was going to kill her again in my next book. See, I have this habit of offing her (and other family members) in my work, though I disguise who they are, of course ;-) When I talked to her about that, it turns out that recognizing bits and pieces of her life in my books always made her brain kind of trip. She had to remind herself that this wasn't really about her; that what was going on didn't happen to her. Didn't stop her from feeling that way, though. So that was the beginning. I started to wonder: what happens when too much of your real life is put into a character?
