Picoult says it's meant to be a standalone but I believe you should. I read Between the Lines and found it super helpful, treating this as a sequel (as I knew it was). Some say you don't but I love this book so much better, yet I think it'll help to have a concrete idea of the story by reading Between the Lines first :)

I would recommend you did. However it's not really necessary as it provides some background details, but Between The Lines was super good.

If I was in your position, I would.
However, I was able to read and enjoy Off the Page without remembering most of Between the Lines (it's been two years!). If you are able/willing to, you should read Between the Lines, but it is not necessarily required.

I didn't read Between the Lines, but I plan on doing so soon. But Off the Page is easy to catch on to and it involves enough information to make sure you understand how people are where they are.

I'm currently reading Off the Page and I did not read Between the Lines (I didn't realize Off the Page had a companion book until I took the book home with me and saw that it said this on the cover). I am almost finished with the novel and I'm understanding it very well and enjoying it. I would like to read Between the Lines sometime soon, just because.

I have read both Between The Lines and Off The Page, and I agree that you do not need to read Between The Lines to read Off The Page. They are both good books though, and I recommend reading both of them just for fun. :-)

If you read Between the Lines after Off the Page it becomes more of a prequel
Ethel
It probably helps but definitely not necessary. You catch on pretty quickly.
