Goodreads asked Joshua Rutherford:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Joshua Rutherford History has always fascinated me. I find myself drawn to the past. This is especially true of the 19th century, at the dawn of the Industrial Revolution. I love analyzing how many civilizations at that time found themselves torn between the long-standing traditions and new possibilities.

I wanted to write an epic that took place during this period, to tell a story never told before. I found myself drawn to the Napoleonic Wars, the American Civil War and the Crimean War. But the narrative I would often want to construct didn't quite fit into any of these conflicts.

So I made my own world. I created a pseudo-Russian land, with elements of steampunk. Once my universe was established, my narrative took off, leading to my first novel, "Sons of Chenia."
