This is the one I choose for our read. The Little Friend was so disappointing that I cannot find words to express my feelings. I also recently finished a novel about the violent South so I can't choose that again. Will All Over But.. be an opportunity to celebrate the South? That's what I am looking for.

This book is not a celebration of the south. It takes place in the south, it's a memoir about growing up poor in Piedmont Alabama, about his hard-working mother, his mostly absent father, and his two brothers. It is also about the author's career as a journalist, and his lifestyle, and his personality. It is a very good book by a very good writer. But Bragg is no romantic.

(I, too, hated Little Friend! Couldn't believe it was the same author who wrote Secret History, one of my favorite-ever novels!)
