Hi, For school I am creating a webquest about creating characters. I was wondering if you had any advice for me? I did this because I absolutely love the waterfire saga books and can't wait for the third one. I would very much appreciate if you could give me some advice. Grace, 10

Hi Grace. I'm glad you're enjoying the Waterfire Saga -- I have loved getting to know these merls and telling their story.
As for characters, I don't really feel like I "create" them at all. Rather, I encounter them -- they can be conjured by a photo, a book, a room in an old house, a graveyard, a dress, a neighborhood, a story. These characters can be shy and evasive at first, but I'm very persistent. I learn everything I can about them and people like them. I ask them question after question, and search for the answers myself if I need to. And I stick with it until they finally begin to talk.
I have advice to young writers in the FAQ section of my Website: http://www.jenniferdonnelly.com/faq.html -- perhaps you'll find something useful there.

My friend and I are obsessed with your book Revolution. I found it beyond incredible. It was the best book I have read in such a long time. I have looked for an answer to this but I can not find it. What inspired revolution? My friend and I have been looking up characters such as Alexandrine Paradis and Amadé Malherbeau for closure to see if there was much truth behind this brilliant story. Big fan <3
