I'm curious to know how you came up with the idea for 'The Expats,' specifically for Kate. I'm liking Kate's unconventional spy history and background a great deal! Were you influenced by anything in particular for the story and the main characters?

Chris Pavone Thank you! The Expats is a book about marriage, about the limits to honesty and intimacy. I wanted the protagonist to be keeping a giant secret from her husband, and for these two characters to have never known the truth about how they spend their days.
