Priya asked J.M. Lavallee:

I loved your short story ' Finding Aubrey '. How much do you edit your story after writing? Do you experience indecisiveness while you're already half-way through writing? How do you fix the plot and stick to it?

J.M. Lavallee Hello Priya Prithviraj, I'm sorry it has taken so long to answer these questions. I missed your post somehow!

I'm glad you enjoyed 'Finding Aubrey', that story is close to my heart.

In terms of how much or how little a project needs editing can vary. Sometimes a tale will simply 'work', while other times, careful backtracking is necessary.

I find writing short stories trickier than crafting novels. The compressed nature of a short does not allow for dallying. Keeping unnecessary extras out of a short really helps one stay focused.

Short and sweet, as they say!
