Angela Ryser
Angela Ryser asked Chris Bohjalian:

I really enjoy not only your novels but your blog posts. You are an informed author who takes the necessary time to research and present supporting ideas. My question is this: Why do you not review on Goodreads the books you read? I would be most interested to hear your opinions. If you don't care to post your answer to the general public, I would welcome a note. Thank you!

Chris Bohjalian I have so many friends who are authors and I am reading so many of their books. So, if I like a book, I simply give it five stars on Goodreads. If I do not like a book, I simply do not list it. This way readers can see the books I have enjoyed to one degree or another, but I don't hurt anyone's feelings.

Now I do review books as a critic for the Washington Post and the Boston Globe. That is, obviously, very different. I never know the person whose book I am reviewing, and I can give a lengthy review.
