A Goodreads user asked Gail Carson Levine:

Mrs. Levine, I haven't picked up a book by you that I haven't loved. While I never cared much for Tinker Bell aside her original appearance in J. M. Barrie's novel, I've fallen in love with your depiction of her in the Fairy Dust Trilogy books. I'm fascinated by the depth you brought to characters that I'd considered fairly bland. What was it like to work with them? Was Disney very restrictive in what you could do?

Gail Carson Levine Thank you! I love Barrie's PETER PAN! Disney was easy to work with. My only restrictions were that I had to include Tinker Bell and I couldn't let Peter or Hook take over. I had complete editorial control. All the words and the plots are mine, although I had fine editors whose insights were very useful.
