I'm from Baldwinsville. I'm here in need of a voice louder than my own, and I don't know where to turn. I am Samantha Woollacott, and an active duty marine. I am being medically retired due to what's known as, Rape Related PTSD. I need a voice to speak for every victim who doesn't have one of their own. This is a side of the military that they don't see. Can you help?

I am so very sorry for the trauma and pain you have had to endure, Samantha. I hope that you've been able to find a counselor who can help you process what you have gone through and start to heal. The journey from victim to survivor can be hard, but at the end of it is an amazing life filled with power and joy.

My question pertains to Speak and your use of Picasso as inspiration. Picasso is documented as having been controlling, abusive, unfaithful, and manipulative toward women. I found it interesting that he would inspire Melinda. I am teaching Speak next month. So my question is this: Was the use of Picasso intentional because of his abusive tendencies? Or, was it simply an artist most young adults would know?
