Goodreads asked Millie Blackwood:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Millie Blackwood Write. Just write. Don't think about writing. Don't talk about writing. Just fucking write. Sit yourself down with a notebook or keyboard, and churn those thoughts into print. It doesn't matter how good or bad your writing is -- the important thing is that you're getting it out of your system.

Write every day. It doesn't need to be a lot. Some days it will be 100 words, some days it will be 1,000 words. Just so long as you put the time and effort in. Your project isn't going to write itself.

Surround yourself with inspirational creative-types. Artists, other writers, social misfits who have a real knack for creative expression. Go out and find people who will push you, encourage you, but not tear you down. They will be your muse, they will be your editors, they will be your platform for personal expression.

What they give to you, you must give back in return. The true definition of a starving artist is an artist whose needs are not met by those he calls his peers.
