Goodreads asked Steven A. McKay:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Steven A. McKay Go at your own pace - but don't think that allows you to be lazy. I'm fed up reading people saying you must write every day, no matter what. It's nonsense. I write when I have time and when I'm in the right frame of mind - if I forced myself to write when I didn't really feel like it I'd just end up having to redraft it all.
When I write, I only have to tweak it later, I never have to redraft entire sections.
I think you should write when the mood takes you, but try and prepare your scenes in your mind beforehand so you're ready to go when you do sit down at the laptop.
