Goodreads asked Pochassic:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Pochassic From an aquarium accident.
I have kept tropical fish for most of my life. One day to my astonishment two different breeds of fish in my tank, who are not supposed to be able to breed , bred.
I was quite delighted and posted a YouTube video of one of the offspring. Then the comments started pouring in. Lets just say they were unkind.
And that sparked something in my imagination. I had a short story that I wanted to rework into a longer piece, a zombie story. I wanted to tell the story from the release of the plague right through to the end , have there be a final winner zombies or humanity.
Problem was I couldn't find a way for my villain to concoct something that was plausible. Then the impossible fish comments came in and I felt freed.
After all if my fish did the impossible in my tank, why couldn't my villain do the impossible, as long as it sounded plausible.
Combining a fungus and a virus is supposedly impossible. Yet my villain was able to manipulate and combine them at the molecular level. A PhD in Bio-Engineering and a religious zealot bent on world domination could surely solve that small problem :-) ...and then I was off to the races
