The author or the book never claimed to be about Afghanistan or Afghans, it says clearly on the cover that it is a book about five women and five different lives. It could be set in Texas and still be about same five women. If you want a "deep, heavy" book about Afghans then read only Khaled Hosseini books. This was supposed to be lighter and not always the doom gloom of Afghanistan. It sounds like you are the naive one who picked up a book that's a story about five women's lives that you were not interested in.(less)
