Well... I read a lot of peer reviewed medical journals as well as random abstracts on pubmed (this is a byproduct of my job and also just because it's interesting). So, if it's a random fact related to the human genome project or rare diseases, then it's from my head.

However, my husband is the random (COMPLETELY RANDOM) factoid person in our house. He knows the most random information... so several of Janie's tangents came from him. I hope this helps!

This is quite random, but what is the molecule on the cover of your elements of chemistry series? It looks like a protein, so I tried to be all cool and figure it out on my own, but the portion of the sequence from the part of the structure on the cover was too short to give good results on the databases I tried.
