Karsten Vestergaard Dr. Kissing had spent his life collecting stamps, and I think it was unbearable for him to end up being forced to sell off his collection to pay for bare necessities like rent and food.

The "Ulster Avenger" was the crown jewel of his collection, and hocking it like a simple commodity, would be to betray his passion. Instead, he chose to let it go up in smoke - a final grand gesture from an old man,who had grown weary of the world.
