Goodreads asked Sherrill Wark:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Sherrill Wark Somehow, Dad, during the writing of his memoirs (as the Chief of Police in Renfrew ON) got approached by Daryl LaBine (a "cousin" on the Acadian side), for more information. As it turned out, Daryl had some interesting info.

The list of "children" by Claude Guédry/Guidry included 11, born between 1682 and 1703. Down below the list it said: "xii. Jeanne Guédry dit Laverdure, b. ca 1680, baptized 2 Jun 1681, St.John at Menagoneck, Acadia. ... daughter of Claude Guédry called La Verdure and Kesk8a Indian. Interesting that he married Marguerite Petitpas (my grand to the nth) in 1681. When I realized that Claude's first (?) child had been with Kesk8a first and not from my own ancestor, it was like Kesk8a reached out and grabbed me by the heart and squeezed. Then ... The first sentence of *Death in l'Acadie: A Kesk8a Story* came out onto the paper. It was like she was channeling through me! Amazing experience to write this book. Amazing!
