W.T. asked Erik Larson:

I am history buff and a working journalist, so I'm itching to know about your writing process. Can you tell us about how you and where you gather your information? You did a beautiful job weaving your narrative with such rich historical detail and fact. Do you have to take a sabbatical from life to get to that level of detail in your research?

Erik Larson I have the great luxury of being able to do what I do full time. I always travel to visit archives, because that's half the fun. There's no substitute for going to the scene of the crime, if you will. Which in the case of Dead Wake meant going to London, Cambridge, Liverpool, the north coast of Denmark, and to various archives in the U.S.
