Sandi It's a wholesome story that will appeal those who have imagined living ang surviving in the wilderness. It would suit most readers 7 and up.
Barrett Corvus It is a bit short and simple, yes, but do not make a classroom read this book. It is the type of book one must discover and cherish, not be forced to take quizzes on it.
Dyck House I'm reading it to my 6 and 8 year old. They are both enjoying it, and are willing to settle down to listen at bedtime. My biggest problem is that they keep falling asleep, so I ended up reading ahead to the end, as I found it interesting myself. I can see why it is a Newberry Medal book, and it's worth reading at any age.
David Seven and up. It does have a childish feel to it at times, but I think this is exactly why it is such a good book.
Rentara I first read this book at about nine or ten and have re-read it many times in the decades since. It is "kiddish" in that it celebrates freedom and growing up and learning to do things oneself.
Apex157x I read this as a young adult, jr. high, etc but am now re-reading it as a middle-aged adult. Still loved it. Sometimes you want a little lighter reading even as an adult. Slightly lighter but similar to the Hatchet series.
Carrie I read this book aloud at bedtime to my 5 and 7 year old and they enjoyed it very much.
Elizabeth Crisfield Our son was 5-6 when we first read it to him. He has a relatively long attention span for a kid and we read it over a week or so. We liked it so much we bought the trilogy. And by "we" I mean "we" not "him" - my husband is infatuated with the idea of falconry now.
Christian Yes it’s kiddish, o quote from the book. “Can you hum with me!”
