I've loved all of your strong female characters, and I always find myself rereading your novels to get back in touch with them! How do you write such relatable and realistic characters while also tackling the fantasy elements of the genre?

Gail Carson Levine Aw, gee, thank you! That's a strangely hard question. I guess it's because my main characters are usually young women, and I throw them into tough situations.They have to act, because no one is going to rescue them, and acting--despite worries and fears and sometimes feeling inadequate--makes them strong.
