Dating Hamlet's publication is complicated because there is no 'official' version of the text but instead three significant variations published between 1603 - 1623. Wikipedia explains this history in brief detail, tho the article neglects to mention that the 1604 version printed by James Roberts is the first *authorized* publication of Shakespeare's text:
