Erik Larson:
Erik—In "In The The Garden Of The Beasts," one of the main ideas I came away with was that the U.S. didn't want to fight Hitler because we had so much money tied up in the reconstruction of a post-WWI Europe. Am I wrong in thinking that you covertly slipped into the narrative that a lot of the American "elite" (define that as you will) prevented us from entering the war for years?

You are reading something into the book that was not there. I don't recall anywhere suggesting that the U.S. tolerated Hitler because of investment in post-war Europe. Possibly another book?
