Claire Fullerton asked Patrick Whitehurst:

I am currently reading your book, "Talk Jock Twits" and am enthralled by your trigger ready, accurate dialogue! Can you tell me what goes through your mind as you are writing dialogue? It reads as if you do so effortlessly! I am enjoying this character driven book very much!

Patrick Whitehurst Hi Claire! I am glad you're enjoying the book! And I am looking forward to reading your "Dancing to an Irish Reel!" It's great to see it out in paperback now!
Dialogue is fun for me. I sort of picture it in my head as if it were a conversation between me and someone else in that situation, taking out all the societal pressures to say the right thing at the same time! I learned from Western author Gary McCarthy that dialogue works well when you place the descriptor in front of the quote on occasion to break up the routine of "she said" at the end of every bit of dialogue. For some reason that always stuck with me.
I hope you are doing well!
