Erik Larson:
I'm a big fan of your books (have read Isaac's Storm, Devil in the White City and In the Garden of Beasts) - love the way that they take you back into the time as if you were there yourself. Wondered which were your own favourite authors (fiction or non-fiction)and whether there were any that influenced your own writing ?

My favorite authors are Hemingway, Hammett, Chandler, and Tolstoy. I admire the first three for the clarity and austerity of their prose, which has directly shaped how I approach writing. I include Tolstoy for sheer depth and heart of story-telling. And because I'm a sucker for a good Russian novel.

Your writing and research merges together so well in your Books. I just finished "Dead Wake" and I Was impressed with how you built tension In a story, when readers already knew the outcome. It was the first Time I have read a book, admired how it Was crafted and thought about how it was Edited. Would you comment on the editing process For Dead Wake?
