I recently finished reading outlander and I really liked it, but after reading the plot for this book and the next, and realising that the story kind of goes on 20 years later, I'm on the fence about continuing with the series. So, can someone please tell me why did Claire wait 20 years to find out weather Jamie had died or not and to go back to him?

Also in the edition I checked out, the author explains it from her personal perspective. She just didn’t want to deal with the child aspect. She said it would take away from the main point of the story.(less)
