Goodreads asked S.L. Dove Cooper:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

S.L. Dove Cooper Read. Read a lot. Write as much you can. Don't be afraid of making mistakes. We always make them, even the best of us.

And take writing advice with a grain of salt because it might not work for you for any number of reasons! That's okay! Don't be put off by that. We all work differently and discovering what works best for you is part of learning the craft of writing.

That said, a lot of the advice that's out there (such as "Don't use too many dialogue tags") exists for a reason, so always ask yourself why someone is recommending something and take it from there.

Lastly, I've said some variant of this already, but experiment! You won't discover if something works better for you if you always do the same thing. And don't give up if things don't work the way you want them to the first time. It takes practice.

I hope that helps!
