Goodreads asked Mary Strand:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Mary Strand I used to say that I don't get writer's block, but I stand corrected. :-)

Truth is, there are (rare) days when I simply can't write (like, say, the day after an election, or when something really awful happens to me or to someone I care about), and I accept those days. (On those days, I try to read a good book instead.) The rest of the time, my best solution is to write: as in, follow my writing ritual, which consists of driving to a great coffee shop known as Sebastian Joe's, buy a triple-berry scone and a Diet Coke, try to nab the table by the fireplace, and spend about 10 minutes enjoying the scone and feeling happy before I start typing. It works 99 percent of the time.

When that doesn't work, I go for a long walk and think about the book. And then I go to Sebastian Joe's. :-)
