The worst thing about being an author is not having someone else determine when you do your work, or determine how much research/brainstorming/audience-demographic-alignment is appropriate.

Most days, the freedom to work when and how you like is a greater benefit than not having the safety net of external requirements; but, some days it would be pleasant to have someone else validate the need to ponder instead of actually bash out words.
