I've just started The Deep because the blurb intrigued me. I was cutting my teeth on Peter Benchley as a teen and young adult. Being raised on the water, I was intrigued by marine sci-fi/horror. Have you read any of his books? The description of The Deep immediately brought him to mind.

Nick Cutter I've read JAWS, which I really really liked. Other than that, no, although I plan to do so one of these days.
