Paul Whybrow asked J.A. Gilbert:

Your comment on struggling to sell your work resonated with me. I'm prolific, though uploading an ebook has started to feel like emptying a bucket of water into the ocean. In an attempt to raise my profile,I've given my books away for free, started a blog,a Face Book business page,Linked-In presence, joined Twitter and reinstated this profile. Have you tried any of these things, and what success have you had ?

J.A. Gilbert Hello Paul,

I have tried a giveaway on Amazon and although some people did download it, none of them wrote a review afterwards. I suspect that some probably just downloaded it because it was free and probably haven't even read it.

I have got a Face Book author page, but must admit that I'm not very good at putting messages on it. I'm never quite sure what to write on it! The same is probably true with my Twitter account, where I tend to retweet more than tweet.

I've also just set up a website using Wix, but I'm not sure if anyone has looked at it yet. I used Wix because I was able to set up a free site for now and then if business takes off, I can upgrade to a paid one. I've included a blog on that site. It's http://josiegilbert025.wix.com/j-a-gi..., if you'd like to have a look.

I think sometimes you just need a bit of luck, with the right person taking a chance on reading something you've written.
