Alice Staples asked Jules Cassard:

Where did the idea for Dirt Nap Rhapsody come from?

Jules Cassard Thanks for the question. One of my favorite ways to start working on a story is to have some almost impossibly absurd moment in my head and then to try and ground that absurd moment in reality. I ask myself, "How would two people end up in this situation?" and go from there. Now, usually this process turns out just to be an exercise and the story doesn't go anywhere, but every once in a while...

For Dirt Nap Rhapsody I had this idea of a man being led to his execution, but instead of appearing sullen or afraid, looking very content and satisfied and blowing kisses and happily waving to a mysterious figure on the other side of the two-way mirror. I wanted to know who these two people were, and suddenly that moment became an after thought as their story came alive.
