Goodreads asked Brad Boney:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Brad Boney I stop writing. I know that sounds like the worst possible answer, but I'm not a machine. I've read many "Tips for Writers" essays, and most of them include something like, "Write every day." I don't do that. I write when I have a story to tell, and not a day before. If my inspiration tank is empty, then I wait until it fills up again. How long does that take? Sometimes days and sometimes months. Every time I finish a book, I wonder if that's the last one. But if I set up a routine and turn writing into a job, then I will suck the magic and mystery out of it. Because the truth is, I have no idea where my stories come from. I have no idea how to turn that faucet on, and frankly, I don't want to know. I want the creative process to live outside the borders of my intellect. I want it to remain spontaneous, chaotic, messy, and scary--like walking a tightrope without a net. So I don't fear writer's block. I embrace it instead.
