Is this book appropriate for a 12 year old with a high threshold for scary stories? Is there anything inappropriate in this book?

I am 18 and was similar to your daughter in the threshold department when I was 12. It wouldn't have scared me very much. It isn't very detailed in the murders and the whole story is told in kind of a removed way. I might even be kind of instructional, I learned not to do a lot of things that I had never really thought of before, and could keep me safe one day. (less)
