Start! Put pen to paper, type in that Word document, however you want to do it. Then keep doing it until you have a finished draft. Then find people to read it and be open minded about changing everything. Most importantly, if you get discouraged, keep writing! (And when you take breaks, read a book. You'll learn a lot from example.)

It is 42K words, middle-grade, so younger than your target audience. It is the story of a twelve year old girl who aspires to be an equestrian super star and a horse with an attitude.
