Ellen Christensen
Ellen Christensen asked Susan Mallery:

Where did you get the inspiration fot the 3 main characters in The Girls Of Mischief Bay?

Susan Mallery Hi, Ellen. I started with the idea of having three friends of different ages, at different stages of motherhood. That was the inspiration for Nicole, Shannon, and Pam. From there, I built them more thoroughly. Nicole's son is about to turn 5, and she loves him more than anything, but she's starting to wonder about his dad, her husband. Eric quit his job - without discussing it with her first - so that he could write a screenplay. She's running herself ragged to try to keep up with everything, and he's going surfing every morning because he says it helps him think.

Shannon, I I have the most in common with. I feel like she's me in an alternate reality. She's a very ambitious career woman. She appreciates quality and beautiful things, but she doesn't want a man to provide them for her. She is proud to provide for herself. But she's approaching 40 now and realizes that her independence may have a dark side. She hasn't been able to find the one and now worries that she might never get married or have kids. Shannon's storyline is a true romance.

Pam is like many women I know. She's happily married but feels restless now that the kids are grown. She doesn't want to have an affair. She's not looking for that kind of excitement, she just wants things between her and her husband to be as exciting as they were when they were young. I think readers are going to get a real kick out of the things that Pam does to get her husband all hot and bothered for her again.
