Max Lambright asked Olen Steinhauer:

Have any individuals from the "trade" contacted you to provide insight to the inner workings of the espionage world or even to "correct" some things that may need rectifying?

Olen Steinhauer Well the CIA's in-house journal, Studies in Intelligence, reviewed the Milo Weaver trilogy. Now, I'd like to say they praised the psychological realism and great scope of the novels but they primarily ridiculed them for getting things wrong. Fair enough, though those books are not realism--anything involving a "black ops" CIA dept headquartered in Manhattan isn't aiming for ironclad realism.

On the other hand, I get Facebook likes from ex-field agents, so I can't be doing everything wrong...

What I do get are corrections from readers all around the world, less about tradecraft than local details I miss in various countries. Spooks tend to remain mum, particularly if they're still employed...
