When you write do you prefer total silence or do you have background noise, such as music or television?

Susan Mallery When I’m writing, I usually write in silence, but music and background noise definitely helps when I’m brainstorming. I think it's because music prevents me from focusing, which is a good thing when the goal is to let my mind wander while brainstorming. But when I'm actually writing, I need to concentrate more.
