Shawn Hamdorf asked Susan Mallery:

When you start a new series or even continue on with one, how do you keep the ideas of how things will go with each couple from repeating themselves? With all of your books I would think that would be hard.

Susan Mallery Good morning, Shawn. It’s a challenge to keep things fresh, definitely. I work hard to come up with new twists that are specific to the characters in that book. So even if a couple of the events are similar on the surface, the characters’ reactions to those events will be unique.

In the end, the most important thing is to make sure that each book tells a great story. When I write, I have a specific type of reader in mind. She’s a wife, a mom, and she’s so busy taking care of everyone else in her life that she’s lucky if she can squeeze in fifteen minutes to read. My job is to make sure that I give her a story that’s going to take her away from her everyday worries. I need to move her heart and make her laugh, which will refuel her to do what needs to get done.
