Goodreads asked Katherine Center:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Katherine Center You have to write the story that you, yourself, want to read. You have to know what you look for, and long for, in a story before you can write stories for others--because the only compass any writer has for a guide is internal. You can't try to imagine what somebody else would like, or approve of, or think is "good." You'll never figure that out. All you can do is figure out what you like, and then try to write a story that does that—really, really well. And then hope that there are other readers out there looking for the same thing you are.
