Så Salman
Så Salman asked Felicity Meadow:

I absolutely loved your book, it legitimately made me rethink my entire life. Do you have any way of coming up with story ideas?

Felicity Meadow Hello Så Salman! Thank you for your question, you are my first question on Goodreads! I am very happy to hear that you loved Something Happened Here and even more so that reading it provoked such deep existential thinking- hopefully mostly positive.

The way I have come up with many ideas for stories is from observing the world. Something Happened Here was inspired by the land, people, and community where I lived as a child: the desolate, derelict rural area outside of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. There are stories there, in the way the flowers grow, the way certain houses hunch over from the years built on them, inspired by family members, old friends, personal struggles, challenges and suffering that women and girls face, the invisibility of rural areas, how male violence is often permitted by the masses... Inspiration can be overwhelming, which is why I am going to keep writing books.

If you are writing a story, I think they are already inside of you. The main challenge is just translating the stories around and within you into written word. What pulls you? What's something you could never forget, even if you scrubbed your brain clean? Keep asking questions. Keep watching, keep listening, keep writing. Keep loving the beauty and pain in the world, they're partners and they make great stories together.
