Timothy Knutson
Timothy Knutson asked Susan Elizabeth Phillips:

Your books tend to feature a strong woman, with a good sense of humor, who is in some way damaged. And while she is independent, she still ends up being "saved" by a man in some way. Do you think it is possible to have a humorous, sexy book ending with her single and happy? Or with her saving him, instead of the other way around? Or does that go against the entire genre?

Susan Elizabeth Phillips Thank you, but I have to disagree about being "saved" by a man. In just about every book I've written, I think it's the opposite. The heroine's flaws are right out there up front. The heroes are hidden and are really holding him back. She helps him through that. Absolutely possible to write a book with heroine ending up happy and single--authors do this all the time. It's just not my particular fantasy. One thing I've learned over the years is that I have to write my own vision, not anybody else's. Thanks for the great question!
