I don't know if this was answered in the book, but why did Laura's father request her to marry sir Glyde? because Her father is described as an honourable man etc but there must have been some dodgy circumstances for him to put his daughter in danger?

It's an assumption of course, but I base it on the fact that like Sir Percival told Mrs Catherick his biggest secret, she might have dropped some hint. Or maybe Fairlie was just too gullible. Wouldn't be the first time he succumbed to someone's charms lol.(less)
