Goodreads asked Curtis M. Lawson:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Curtis M. Lawson I'm all about story. Don't get lost in slice of life, literary masturabation. Practice telling full stories, with beginnings, middles, and ends. Tell them from various points of view, linear as well as non. Piece together fictional diary entries and newspaper clippings ala Dracula so that it makes a full story. Write in different mediums- prose, comic scripts, flash fiction- and let your mind exercise its plotting and resolution muscles in various ways.
Once you know how to tell a story, write one that comes from the heart and that only you could tell.
