Harold Anite asked this question about Slaughterhouse-Five:
Is this book overrated, the War part seems nothing more than recollection, not even fiction. and the rest pure nonsense that has been mistaken for symbolism?

This is not a simple story, it is a character sketch of a very misunderstood cross-section of society. I would say this book reminds me of the book Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf. Of course that book is plays on the juxtaposition of a war vet and an average citizen through stream of consciousness (which gets very confusing at times.) It's accurate but Woolf had no war experience to draw from

SH5 is certainly not under-rated and completely deserving of its place in the American canon. I say that having not completed the book yet!(less)
