You say in your influences "Too many to list!", who are just one or two of them?

Hi Jazmine! I am so sorry - I don't know how I managed to miss your question! I don't remember seeing a notification in my email or anything. So, many apologies for this late reply!
I think that, while a writer's 'voice' is unique to them, is not something that can be influenced, perhaps the kind of stories I tell have been influenced, on some level, by everything I've ever seen and read and either loved or hated! Which is what I mean when I say that these influences are many...
I used to read a lot of fairy tales and fantasy fiction when I was very young, and I love that sense of magic and wonder they give, and the pace of the adventure. I love detective novels (and TV shows) and the solving of mysteries - the dropping of subtle clues. I love Daphne du Maurier, and the thrilling twists she was able to write. I love history, and the idea of all the lost stories and secrets it holds... I am sure that in some way, even subconsciously, I try to put these things that I love into my books! I hope that answers your question?
Thank you for writing!
All best wishes,
Katherine

Dear Katherine, I would like to learn about one phrase from "The Unseen", in the very beginning of the book: "It had been a blousy summer day; all diaphanous clouds, with a curling breeze that had caught the donkeys' tails, made them stream out behind them, and made the empty deckchairs billow." THE DONKEYS' TAILS – what does it mean, and what do they here?? I am not an English-speaker. Thank you so much in advance!

Hello Katherine, I've chosen you as the author for my first university presentation as your books have influenced my own writing a great deal. I was wondering if you could possibly tell me anything about your influences and creative process? Thank you very much, I look forward to your future work.

Hi Katherine, have just discovered you through reading "A Half Forgotten Song" I loved it, particularly how it plays with memory - the shifting understanding of things from a long time ago. Charles Aubrey felt so real I thought he was an actual artist thought clearly not - did any particular artist/s inspire this character? I will now read something else you have written - any suggestions?
