1. Read. Read alot! Especially read in the genre you intend to write.
2. Learn the craft of writing. You can do this through books, writing classes, mentoring with an established author, or joining a critique group.
3. And write. Don't spend all your time learning about writing, reading about writing and thinking about writing. You have to practice. Get some words on the page. It doesn't matter how awful it is to begin with you. You'll improve. But just like any skill, you have to practice and hone it in order for you to be successful.
