In the beginning of the book you mentioned that Lydia had a copy of The Sound And The Fury. Did that book somehow influence Everything I Never Told You?

What a good question! The Sound and the Fury is one of my favorite books, and one of the things I liked about it is that there's a deeply complicated sibling relationship at the heart of it. And it's a book I hugely admire. So I gave it that little cameo role in my novel as a nod to the complicated relationship between brother and sister--and also as a kind of good-luck talisman.

Amazing job with Little Fires Everywhere, I've lived in greater Cleveland my whole life, in the city the last ten years, and I'm very close to the age of the characters in the book. You nailed the feeling of growing up in the city and have done one of the best jobs of representing the stores, restaurants, and hangouts. I know you lived in Shaker but why did you choose to set the book in a place you know so well?

'Everything I Never Told You' changed the way I read forever and I now tell people that it's definitely a "Must Read Before You Die" book.
