Goodreads asked Elizabeth Rose:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Elizabeth Rose First off, I reject the notion that there's any such thing as an "aspiring writer". People either write or they don't. Aspiration has nothing to do with it.
If you are a writer who wishes to share your writing with others, become published, make money, etc., than I advise you to broaden your knowledge base as much as possible. Meet as many people as you can, travel, and read everything you can get your hands on. This will give you more material to write about.
I also encourage those who love the written word to deepen their knowledge of whichever language they write in. Get to know the quirks of grammar in your chosen language intimately, develop as extensive a vocabulary as you can, and study the origins/histories of words and idioms. The better you understand your medium, the better able you will be to use it.
