Just looked at the photos of the new actors who will portray Lynley and Havers. They look too young! And Lynley still has dark hair. But I realize you had no control over that. How do you feel about the new series? I'm more anxious for the books. Those are "real" Elizabeth George, who can't be surpassed.

Elizabeth George Whenever a writer sells her work to a production company, she has to allow the company a lot of leeway when it comes to what they eventually do with the adaptation. Having said that, I like the choices they have made with regard to casting as I've seen the screen tests of both actors singly and together, and they "get" the nuances of the two main characters. I think one of the reasons they chose young actors is that they don't want them to age out of the parts. If the series is successful and the BBC and Britbox want to renew it, it's important that the characters aren't too old to play Lynley and Havers in future episodes. The original Lynley and Havers, for example, couldn't play the roles now as it's been nearly 30 years since the first series was filmed.
